Well here goes my attempt at a blog. It seemed a good idea at the time. It kind of evolved. I felt the leading to try and do something over the Advent period. My original idea or thought was to organise a weekly Advent Austerity Lunch. You know the idea a simple bowl of soup, bread and cheese and a general discussion or bible study on the theme of Advent.
However after some initial soundings and some more prayer there seemed to be little interest and also there were a few logistical problems that I had not thought through. The problem, the niggling thought, idea, vision, would not go away and so here I am with the beginning of a blog.
The new idea is, to try and write a daily Advent Blog, a kind of Advent Calendar without the chocolate treat, open a different door every day of Advent to hopefully discover something new behind each one. I have not completely abandoned my original idea however and plan to hold probably just one Advent Lunch sometime over the four weeks of Advent. So I hope at least some will join me on ADVENTure. Who knows where it will take us?

Will look forward to seeing what the adventure brings, apart from bad puns! Still, as I'm not allowed chocolate anymore...

ReplyDeleteGood idea to embark on this journey, Graeme.
ReplyDeleteIf I recall my school days correctly (very slim chance, as I can hardly recall what I had for breakfast let alone ancient history) the word 'Advent' may well be based on the Latin word 'Advenire', meaning 'to arrive'.
So your idea of an advent journey is brilliant - you reminded me that it's as much about our own journeys as Mary and Joseph's - keep up the good work, sir. I look forward to future installments!
I think it is a great idea Graeme, and look forward to finding out more. I can't promise lots of time, but I am willing to help out if you need some assistance
ReplyDeleteWe are all on our own adventures, just not as important as Jesus. We all need to try new things it is how we discover the good and the bad this life has to offer. Jesus did a lot of good in his life and sufered greatly. JW

ReplyDeleteI wonder will any of us truly take time out to think about what Christmas really is to us...we are all so busy getting ready...buying presents, writing cards, impressing others with what we have achieved so far....we need to take time to focus on the most precious baby that turned into a man that really is the most precious gift of all....HE took time for us......what will we do for HIM??
